A Podiatrist in North-America refers to a person who has received the degree
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (D.P.M.)
This degree is granted by one of the seven College of Podiatric Medicine in The United States
of America after succesfully completing the four years of schooling.
Usually the graduate would continue to take a one year Rotating Podiatric Residency (RPR)
and or up to a three year Podiatric Surgical Residency (PSR36).
Podiatrists are licensed to diagnose and treat foot conditions by medical,
mechanical, electrical, surgical of orthopedic modalities.
However, the main focus is on recognition and prevention of foot ailments particularly in
people with Diabetes and vasvular problems.

Dr. J. Wong-Sing received his Bachelor's of Science Degree at the University of Toronto (www.utoronto.ca/uoft.html) in 1973 and received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (www.ocpm.edu/) in 1977.
